Remembrance day

Today we remember those who fought in the war. We remember those who died in the war. We
remember the families who lost someone in the war. Remembrance day is all about remembering the
sacrifices that soldiers made in World War I. We give a moment of silence, at exactly the eleventh hour, of
the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, which is November 11, at 11 o’clock (am). Why? Well, it’s
because we are commemorating the agreement signed on this day at this time that ended the First World
War. This day used to be called Armistice Day – ”armistice” meaning, two opposing sides signing an
agreement to stop fighting – until 1931 when a new bill was passed to change it to Remembrance day.
One important symbol of Remembrance day is the poppy. On Remembrance day and throughout the
month of november, people wear plastic/felt poppies to show that their support for the soldiers. We at
EXPLORUM encourage you to take a moment of silence, wherever you are to be thankful and just…
remember.
